Covered Drawers

I have had these little old drawers for many years. I bought them at a jumble sale for 50p! They have been used to store my vintage hand bag collection, tucked in to the bottom of my wardrobe.

I felt a make-over coming on, when I won a beautiful wallpaper from the 1940's on eBay!

I painted the edges, as these would have been very fiddly to cover in paper.

Having removed the little brass draw pulls, I used PVA glue to stick the wallpaper to the drawer fronts trimming it to fit with a craft knife. I then screwed the handles back in place.
The rest of the box was covered in the same way.

I think it will now be very useful in my work room, which I MUST clear out this month!!

  1. Wow, what a transformation! They look really beautiful. I love that wallpaper. I think they definitely need to be on show now rather than in the bottom of your wardrobe.

  3. Niki, your drawers look fantastic now! Vintage wallpaper on ebay, what a great idea to look for! Some days ago, on ebay, I won some old angel pictures used for 'autograph books' that school kids passed round in former times. I can't wait for them to arrive (at the beginning of next week, hopefull). I'll then try my first vintage cards.
    Have a great week-end!

  6. Niki, you've done it again! Perhaps I should try the same with the flight of drawers I take to the fairs, although I have nowhere near as much patience as you so I'm sure they wouldn't look anywhere near as good!! Paul's impressed yet again ...
    See you tomorrow!

I love peeking into your living experience in England. The antique shops and craft fair were a wonderful treat and what a great suprise from your friend in Germany(she's very talented).
I love the transformation of your drawers I have something similar out of cardboard and am now inspired to transform it.
    Have a great weekend

  9. Way to go Niki!! Boy do they look better, did we ever see a picture of your work room?
Good ole Ebay, I just got a 1950's Betsey Wetsey doll today. Almost always have something coming my way from them. This time of year with no garage sales I go more toward Ebay.
Love the paper and the finished product.

  11. Hi Niki,

Such a lovely transformation. I too bought a filing cabinet a few years back for five dollars. It's cream white and needs a little touch up. Still don't know what I'll do. Thanks for sharing the lovely Christmas windows of England. I feel a part of me is there. And you’re right even if you don't buy anything it's still a nice jaunt to town and that in itself can be very rewarding and inspirational. So many wonderful ideas. Take care.

  13. So pretty! They kind of remind me of old card catalogue drawers from the library. I'd love to find something like that.
