Vintage & Handmade Spring Fair

Saturday 25th May 2013
Original Vintage & Handmade Spring Fair,
The Town Hall, Chipping Sodbury, South Glos, BS37 6AD

10am - 4pm. £1.00 admission
I have lots of goodies coming with me to the fair on Saturday, including some of my one-of-a-kind handmade dolls. Here is just a taster...
Two fairies are dressed in vintage French muslin printed with cherries, so I've given them both names of cherry varieties...
This is Bigarreau Jaboulay!
Heart shaped, slightly fibrous, juicy, sweet and good flavour.

This is Geante de Hedelfingen.
Roundish oval, firm, very juicy, good quality and almond flavoured.
Two traditional fairies...
Twinkle.

And Sparkle.

This is Olivia, dressed in a c1930's French floral cotton. I salvaged the top section of a Victorian baby gown to create her jacket.

Ava is dressed in a cosy pure wool jacket that I have hand embroidered with flowers. She has pretty cotton layers beneath and a vintage posy brooch in her hair.

This useful little table has been given a makeover with a heavily distressed paint effect and decoupaged pages from antique books.

I'm going to be bringing lots of vintage/antique treasures with me too...
Including this sweet skittle set.
Each has been handmade from felt, with a c1930 doll's face.  A great collectable, the likes of which I have never seen before.

I also have a wonderful selection of original Victorian hats. These are always difficult to photograph as they are made from jet black velvet which reflects the light badly. They are in very good condition though and show a variety of styles and embellishments. Each hat was handmade, so no two hats from this era are ever the same.

As a hat collector myself, these will be very difficult to part with, but I hope someone will enjoy owning a one-off piece of social history.

This one is my favourite and is in fabulous condition for its age. Its really quite tiny though and shows how much bigger women have become in just over a century.

And a tiny hat, possibly for a child or a doll.

I also have this beautiful original painting of roses.
Love the colours.
I have
lots more items filling the car, ready for the fair tomorrow...
Hope to see you there if you can make it - Always a lovely event with a gorgeous variety of stalls and products.
Off to work now - Have a great day!

Gardeners Diary

In honour of the RHS Chelsea Flower Show turning 100 years old this year, I'd like to share a few photos taken in our modest little garden today. All created on a very tight budget, but with quite a bit of back aching work (nothing a good soak in the tub doesn't sort out), we've fashioned our little haven to escape to when we can...

Won't be long now before the wisteria explodes into a riot of blooms...

And the lilac too...Can't wait! :)

It was only last year I told of my reasons for wanting to find a Viburnum Opulus for a corner of our garden. Well, I was lucky enough to be able to buy a fine specimen, which duly found its place amongst the other botanical treasures...And already I am to be rewarded with a fine crop of snowballs in May! :)
They make my heart sing...

The joy of blogging comes into its own when we can compare posts from previous years, to find out what was looking its best in the garden at about the same time...
