Last weekend my hubby took our youngest daughter to Thorpe Park, which meant that I was home alone.....so what did I do?......I cleaned, preened and titivated the house! I really know how to have a good time, don't I?!! But it's rare for me to have these quiet moments, as hubby and I both work from home and the girls are always coming and going....
I won't bore you with my list of chores, but I did have fun in the master bedroom....After 10 years of my dressing table having a lime-washed finish, I decided to paint it white. It took three coats to get an even coverage, but I think it has been worth it....
I then sorted through of all my dressing table accessories, returning only a 'few'(!) of my favourite things to the display.

On the Sunday I took myself off to a sale. I was scuttling past a militaria stand which had antique guns, swords, helmets and such on display, when I noticed a flash of blue under the table. On closer inspection I realised that it was a sash.

I assumed it was a masonic sash, but the dealer assured me it was from 'The Friendly Society', which I thought sounded quite sweet! So I bought it and have placed it on my mannequin with some ostrich plumes around her shoulders. I had struggled to know how to dress her; I think because she has such a dark covering making any accessories stand out in contrast - But I feel this works OK and she looks quite regal.
Wishing everyone a happy weekend,

The sash looks perfect, very ncie display !
ReplyDeleteOOh you busy bee! Love that beautiful little blue tiled fireplace! How lovely that no-one ripped it out before you arrived! Love your idea of minimal too! t.xxx
ReplyDeleteI know just what you mean about having the house to yourself. Hubby works at home, one teen is still home-schooled and alone time is so rare. I do the same thing. I turn up the music that they all dislike, usually Aretha, and have a good clean and organize session. What wild and exciting lives we lead.

Love the bathroom picture. I have always wanted to relax in a tub like that by a fireplace. With the blue wall color it looks so soothing, need book, wine and bubbles.
ReplyDeleteI love the way your dressing table turned out. You have the most wonderful pix! I covet the blue sash. Is it REALLY from the Friendly Society? Is there really such a thing? I would like to be a member!
ReplyDeleteLove the photos, especially the sash!
