Zippity Quick (A Roundup of News)

Hope you've been enjoying your week so far...
My in-laws arrived on Monday and we had lots of catching up to do.

On Tuesday they came over to Shepton Mallet to see my shop for the first time...Unfortunately just as the rain arrived too! It poured and poured, with the drains hardly able to cope with the sudden deluge. Eventually it passed over and hubby and his parents were then able to enjoy a walk around the town's park where there are lots of baby ducks on the pond at the moment.

Thankfully on Wednesday it was a lot drier, so we took them to Lacock, as they hadn't been before.

This is the house that sells beautiful plants and shrubs via the 'honesty system'. You can select from the outside display and post your payment through their front door letter box.
They're obviously great gardeners themselves, as can be seen with a quick peek over their garden gate...

Sigh...

I have posted about Lacock before, so won't make this a repeat of that, but it was lovely to see the pretty village again at a different time of year.

The Tea Shop.

(My previous post can be seen here)

We left Lacock just before lunch and headed off to nearby Corsham for a bite to eat in the The Flemish Weaver.
We then spent the rest of the afternoon in the grounds of Corsham Court - Which I have also written about on a past post, here, when we visited in early spring last year - In my view the best time to see the gardens, as the spring planting scheme is particularly beautiful.

Yes Mr Peacock...You are exceedingly dashing...

My in-laws have now left for home. As usual it was lovely to have them to stay with us - We are all keen gardeners, and so I think they enjoyed their trips out...(as well as seeing their granddaughters! :)

To my surprise, the floral theme continued when I got to work this morning. I believe Shepton in Bloom had woven their magic and had hung baskets of summer bedding flowers all the way up the high street yesterday, including two petunia baskets on my shop's frontage. (Thank you!)

The Market Cross also received the green fingered brigade's handiwork...A few weeks of summer sunshine should have these looking even more gorgeous.
Other excitement on the Market Place are the silvery shrouds masking some of the old shop windows...These are the shops that the BBC will be working with over the summer for the new history based documentary programme to be shown in November...There seems to be a lot of activity going on inside, including carpentry and general power tool stuff! I even noticed an old clay oven being built in the bakery just up the high street...
Filming is scheduled to begin at the end of June, so I'll report back on anything that I find out over the next few weeks. ;-))
And finally...Blink and you might miss it...

  2. Geez Niki your photos are just too beautiful!
Everything around here is drab compared to your lovely pics.
I think the village ones do the trick for me as I am really fond of old historic towns and you seem to be surrounded by them everywhere. Lucky you!

  9. Hi Niki

I saw the H&A correction - mainly because I searched it out!!

How lovely to have the hanging baskets provided for you! They're going to look lovely soon, aren't they.

Glad you had a lovely week with your in-laws, but what a shame it rained when they visited your shop.

    Catch up soon!

  10. Hello Niki! What a beautiful post, I'm glad the weather cleared up for your In-Laws to enjoy walking about your village and gardens. Wish I lived closer to the people selling plants ...I'd be over there regularly! Well...once we start the garden that is.. I hope you have a wonderful weekend. Maura:)
