Radox and Ralgex!

Just thought I'd drop by my blog to show you some of the things I got up to over the weekend....don't get too excited! ;-))

There was a bit of treasure hunting first thing, as is usual for me...

But unusually, finds were a little more thin on the ground compared to recent weeks.

I was very happy with what I did discover though...

Especially this pile of gorgeous antique and vintage French fabrics.

I also bought a 50's dress, a vintage pure silk blouse and a baby's white cotton nightdress.

The rest of the weekend was spent getting tired and achy...
We have a fencing company coming to put up a 2m high fence on our boundary...Now, I'm not a great lover of fences, as they create such a barrier (obviously!) and can make a garden feel rather enclosed...but our neighbour on one side has been granted planning permission to build a bungalow in his back garden, so needs must...
I shall be planting lots of clematis and climbing plants to hopefully cover the fence in time, and will also create new flower borders all the way down this side of the garden.

I'm not sure where the extra time will come for doing all the additional gardening involved, but I shall have to cross that bridge when I come to it...Maybe I shall take a blogging break during the summer months next year, like many have done this year...
As you may be able to see, we have cut back a huge holly bush that grew over from our neighbours side, along with several other large shrubs.

(Photo taken last year, which shows the dense holly and other foliage)
This is where we are at now, ready for work to start later this week...

Not really very pretty, so I have to tell myself that in a few years time I shall hopefully have created a lush and colourful herbaceous border down this side, including all of my favourite blooms...
Some of which are flowering in our garden at the moment...

  6. Love your finds, I am dipping into the world of fairs at last. We are taking a table at the Vintage and Retro Fair in Durham - AAArrrgghh scary on the BH weekend. Been getting ready for a while after a good clearout. Now making some boudoir type cushions from velvet and beads and faux flowers. The fairs are run by a lovely lady and her partner. She is now www.theclothshed.blogspot.com.

  7. A fence with clematis will be nice, but have you considered planting a hedge? We have acer campestre (don´t know the English name but you should be able to find it via the botanic name)around our garden and it´s perfect - dense, pretty, hardy and a quick grower. I can understand you´re not amused having a bungalow built right in front of your nose!!!

Pretty finds by the way - if I get near Bath I have to visit your pretty shop which I hope is doing well!

    Bye Kirsten

  8. Hi Niki,
Don't feel badly about the fence. We here in California all have fences, mainly so we don't have to look at a neighbor sunbathing while naked. It keeps their dogs out of our gardens as well. The flowers will doll it up and you'll love it in later years.
I was very excited to see that you bought a St. Therese statue. I've had one for over 50 years that looks exactly like yours. What a small world. Love your blog! Terri

  9. What super buys.I hope you have better luck with your "bungalow" than us.We sold the bottom half of our garden with the proviso that only a bungalow went on it.it was asmall plot but the buyer managed to get a 4 bed dormer bugalow on it.We thought we would get a quiet elderly couple but have got 3 noisy children and a barking dog!!
