A Day in Winchester

Hubby had a business meeting in Winchester on Monday and he suggested my daughter and I go with him...We could look around the city whilst he was in his meeting and it would give us an opportunity to spend some time together before she goes to live in New Zealand for a year, next month. I'm always keen to visit places I've not been to before, so off we went...

Winchester is a small city to discover, but steeped in history, with many beautiful buildings.

It didn't take us long to find a fab vintage shop though! (Called Fab Vintage!)

Apparently it only opened last Saturday, so I promised the owner that I'd mention it on my blog for him.

My daughter bought a great plum coloured velvet jacket and a paisley waistcoat.
Then it was time to treat her to a cream tea for lunch!

Afterwards, we toured the rest of the city, before meeting-up with hubby again.

  1. Niki please tell me that you went into the cathedral, because if you didn't you missed a treat. I blogged about it before Christmas, the Gormley in the crypt & the Burne-Jones stained glass.

  2. Dear Niki,
What a small world it is - we were at Marwell Zoo on Monday only a few miles away celebrating Our Daughter's Birthday! The Cathedral is worth a visit - Jane Austen is buried there!

  3. Hi T,
Thanks for your comment. We only had a few hours in Winchester; what with that, and the £6.50 each entrance fee to visit the cathedral, I'm afraid we didn't go in...So I'll visit your blog later and see what we missed! I like that Winchester has a Jane Austen conection, the same as Bath!
It really was a flying visit, and maybe I'll get to go again another time...

  6. I love Winchester - although I've not been back for so long. I was at college there from 1978 - 1982. Your photos reminded me of my time there - lovely!
But £6.50 to go in the Cathedral! Shame!

  7. How funny, I live in Winchester and have not heard of this shop - off to check it out and I will tell the owner I saw it on your blog! Such a small world .... don't get me started on how expensive everything is though!

  8. I'm reading Pillars of the earth so very much thinking cathedrals. We're also stopping in Peterborough and luckily that ones free. Mary queen of Scots and Katherine of Aragon are buried there. Winchester looks lovely.

  9. Love Winchester, haven't been in years, but remember it fondly. So hard to have a daughter move away, ours is about 600 miles away and I hate that.

  10. What a lovely excursion for you and your family, Niki. Winchester looks to be a beautiful place. We have a Winchester here in Massachusetts (as with many English towns), yet it doesn't look nearly as magnificent as its sister city across the pond!
