Vintage at the Village Hall

Phew...Finally here with an update...better late(ish), than never!... ;-))

Vintage at the Village Hall - THE CORN EXCHANGE, MARKET PLACE, BLANDFORD FORUM, DORSET DT11 7AD
on Monday 14th October 10am - 4pm
The Georgian Corn Exchange provides a perfect setting for this unique Vintage Boutique Fair where buyers can chat with the friendly group of specialist sellers, and browse at leisure through a fabulous array of vintage clothing, fashion accessories and jewellery, English and French textiles, Brocante, decorative furniture, furnishings, garden and homeware and a carefully chosen selection of handmade gifts.
I've been making lots of handmade goodies to take with me to Elaine's lovely fair on Monday.
Items include this collection of greetings cards, made from antique silk velvet, lace fragments, mother-of pearl buttons, and vintage book pages.

A lovely tall hat stand, made from authentic 30's materials and doll's face.

There are a few of my one-of-a-kind dolls coming too...
This is Dorothy, who is wearing a pretty dress made from a vintage eiderdown cotton.
She comes complete with underwear made from hand crocheted lace and a sweet vintage doggie brooch which reminded me of Toto from the Wizard of Oz...Hence her name came about as a result!

Molly is one of my large rag dolls. Her cheerful outfit has been made from a large piece of C19th French check fabric, a variety of ginghams and other checks, and a pure wool cardigan.
Pinned to her chest is a  genuine WWII sweetheart brooch.

I've also made four sweet fairy dolls named after types of sugar!
Muscovado.

Turbinado.

Demerara.

And Maple.

I've made a few one-off pieces too. I had these antique plates that were unsuitable for food use due to their poor condition.
I gathered some scraps of lace, vintage photos and some buttons to create some unusual collages.

A plate hanger on the back...
And they're ready for display.

Inspired by the handfuls of sea glass I was able to collect in Mallorca last month, I made use of an old glass bottle. I applied lace to the outside and added faux pearls, lace and sea glass to the inside.
This old lead fishing weight makes the perfect stopper.

Two cushions made from vintage hand embroidery and floral fabrics.

Reverse C1970's Laura Ashley fabric.
All packed and ready for the early start in the morning, with lots of vintage treasures joining my handmade stock...
I'll be doing it all again on Saturday for the Frome Vintage Bazaar, when I hope to have another small collection of handmade dolls ready to take to that too...More details to follow in the week.
Hope to see you at one or both of these much anticipated events, if you can make it. Weather forecasters are predicting a long winter freeze as from November, so it might be wise to start the Christmas shopping early! ;-))
Thank you to all who visited my shop on Friday, when Shepton Mallet hosted the Friday Flea - Belinda has captured the atmosphere beautifully in her fabulous photos from the day, here.

Have a great week,
Niki x

October at Nostalgia at No.1

Lots more vintage treasures have been finding their way into my shop this month...
Here are a few close-ups of some of them.

The Friday Flea is this week - 11th October, 9am start, so I plan to be open at the earlier time of 9am too!

I'll be back here very soon with photos of my latest collection of handmade dolls, which I shall be taking to Elaine's Fair at Blandford Forum on Monday - I've been working like a crazy woman(!) trying to get everything finished in time...Holidays are all very lovely, but you do end up having to play catch-up!

Enjoy the rest of your week,

October Dates

Just back from a fabulous break in Mallorca, feeling refreshed and ready to take on the workload of hand-making items for my shop and the fairs, as we head towards Christmas!
October promises to be a busy time, with lots of events already filling the diary...
The first is the Friday Flea Harvest Fair in Shepton Mallet Town, Somerset.
Friday 11th October - 9am to 4.30pm.
My shop will be open as usual and, weather permitting, my stock will spill-out onto the Market Place.
The second date for the vintage calendar is Monday 14th October - 10am - 4pm for the Vintage at the Village Hall Fair, at the Corn Exchange, Blandford Forum, Dorset.
Finally, I shall also be offering my wares for sale at the Autumn Vintage Bazaar, Cheese and Grain, Frome, Somerset on Saturday the 19th October, 9am to 3pm.
I'll be back soon with a sneaky-peek of some of the goodies I have sourced or handmade for the fairs so far...
Have a great week,
Niki x
