Patchwork Lampshade.

Here is an idea for an unusual lampshade, using a selection of favourite fabrics. Firstly, I made a paper pattern of the wire frame and added a seam allowance. Eight fabrics were required for this large shade; I used floral prints from my vintage fabric collection.

Once cut out, they were stitched together on the sewing machine. The whole thing was then pulled over the frame and I hand stitched it around the top and bottom, pulling it taught. The hand stitches can then be hidden beneath a piece of fabric binding, glued in place.

Tadahhh!

  4. Hi Niki,

I covered a big old lampshade too, but instead used one style of vintage fabric oneside and something else on the other - had a few mishaps along the way though.

Your efforts were worth it, I love the patchwork idea, it's beautiful!

  9. Love it! Niki, when you did those patchwork little ones, did you stick them on to the original shade, or do something clever to fix them onto the wire framework?

  12. Hi Sue, thanks for the comment.
When I made the little lampshades, I cut up small scraps of fabric and pasted them onto a plain parchment shade, using PVA glue.
    Hope this helps!

  36. Lovely and beautifully made, great finish, now i truely hope you see were i am coming from, you have to understand in my head every image comes from either a book or a film or the radio, need i go on! in a previous life i possibly invented charades, i think your lampshade is straight out of either "The darling buds of may" or vintage "Miss Marple" regardless it is super......x
