Fabulous Flea Finds!

Despite the lashing rain and a distinct lack of outside sellers, (who can blame them?!) I still managed to find some treasures at my local flea market on Sunday.

I was so pleased to find these fabulous antique picture frames with their old chippy gesso. One of the large ones will be converted into a box frame and used as part of my kitchen make-over.

These attractive Catherine Klein prints in unusual oval frames and some pretty vintage fabrics
from Sue.

A box stuffed full with antique lace edgings to use on my handmade dolls.

A selection of floppy velvet millinery flowers in mouthwatering hues. (thank you Liz!)
Some wonderful early postcards...sorry, I can't resist them!

And a pretty tapestry featuring a riot of country style blooms -I love the soft green background.
I hope to add some other vintage treasures to my website early next week.

  1. I have to say that the driving rain didn't hurt your thrift day!! What a bunch of good stuff. I won't be going until Wednesday, so I will just look at your finds for now.
Don't you just love the feeling when you come home and get everything out?

  2. OH, I wanted to tell you I just finished reading "HITTY" HER FIRST HUDRED YEARS, BY RACHEAL FIELD. Remember I ask you about your peg doll, kind of looks like a Hitty, but to buy them now they are way over 100 dollars, they are hand carved. Anyway, its such a nice story, I didn't want it to end. It makes you look at all your dolls in a whole different way.She had a real interesting life. She is in an antigue store when the story starts, then tells all about her many owners and her life. It was written in 1929.

  24. You certainly had a very successful day finding all those goodies. I particularly like the fabric featuring the violets, the old postcards and I can't resist any old lace - that looks a really good selection.

  25. Hi Niki, Yes I think we did really well to find what we did considering the awful weather - it was lovely to chat over lunch too!

I think maybe we'll have to do a 'sun dance' to counteract any 'rain dance' that Sue does!!!

  32. Hi there love the blog as ever you always seem to have something interesting to share.
I was just wondering if you know who's blog from last year ( a USA one I think) had a vintage style wedding and they decorated the chairs with vintage aprons and had kind of a shabby chic theme for the reception. I remember seeing it on someones blog but can't
think who's so I am asking around.

  33. Love the frames, the millinery bits and the old lace - terrific finds. And glancing over at Nancy Jo's comment about Hitty, it was one of my favourite books as a child. I never saw a Hitty doll, however, other than in photographs. BTW, the package arrived today - lovely, thank you!

  35. NIKI,
How is the kitchen re-do going? I know how it goes when you move a few things, the whole house falls apart. But hope to see pictures when you are sane again.
Speaking of sane, I went to the thrift store again today, oh please stop me! No I don't really mean that so don't try. But I told myself I will stay home tomorrow. We will see how that goes.

  37. I am looking for a frame like one of those to paint white or pale pink and convert into a memo board for my kitchen.

  38. Love that subtle Laura A. wallcovering - think your kitchen will have even more of a wow factor! Don't blame you getting someone else to hang, so much easier on you. They try to tell us that wallpaper is "OUT" which is ridiculous - there are such beautiful ones now and always as place to hang them.
If you visit me today ACROSS THE POND, you will see what I've done with a lovely "found" antique frame! Your's are just gorgeous and I know you'll make great use of them, even it just left standing on the floor - beautiful!
