I've just heard on the local news this evening that today was the warmest day since last November, and Hubby and I were lucky enough to be beside the seaside this morning - Strolling along the prom, prom, prom!
We went to Burnham on Sea, which is on the Bristol Channel coastline where they have some of the highest tides in the world (just behind Nova Scotia I believe).
As the tide was out, we were able to walk out to the marker at the end of the slip road where you can see the eight meter mark. Some tides further along the coast reach 15 metres!
In contrast to the highest tides, Burnham on Sea has the shortest pier in Britain!
Its a beautiful Edwardian structure and very much a part of the old fashioned feel of the town.
And then sat with some tasty sandwiches looking out to the land on other side of the estuary...
And we shared our crusts with some of the locals!
We also went for a wander around the town after lunch, where I found a few goodies, which I'll show you at the end of the post.

They've recently reintroduced goats to the area to keep down the vegetation. They are truly amazing how they manage to stay so surefooted on the rugged terrain, munching as they go!

We took a brisk walk all along the flat sandy beach, enjoying the calm spring weather.

There was more gorgeous scenery to be seen, as we decided to come home via Cheddar Gorge.

And back home, my vintage finds seem to echo the old fashioned nature of our day - Lots of country cottages and traditional warm woollen blankets and mohair scarves.
Looks like a beautiful place to enjoy the warm sunny day, Niki! And I love your floral china!
ReplyDeleteWonderful! That's my husband's home beach, as it were, and he used to ride along it as a teenager. Is the wreck still there?
ReplyDeleteWow, I think Ive been there, it looks so familiar!
ReplyDeleteSounds like we are on the same page with the weather at the moment, except we are in Autumn.
Enjoy!
Hi Niki
ReplyDeleteMy Mum & I used to take Tom as a baby to Clevedon where he used to love to do a bit of crab fishing off the slipway.
He used to squeel with joy and trepidation when he hooked one, " get it in the bucket Gran!"
Lovely memories

What a wonderful way to spend a warm sunny day! Yes the Bay Of Fundy in Nova Scotia has the highest tides in the world...now I know who has the second highest! Oh I love your 'finds'...maybe I'll have to send my sister over to your shop next time she heads to Cornwall. I'll have to get her to have a look at your Blog so she knows what I like hehehe. Enjoy your day (Thursday) and I hope the sun is still shining for you. Take care Niki......Maura

Lovely to see your photographs. My sister lives in Cheddar and it is lovely visiting the area.
ReplyDeleteBonjour !
ReplyDeleteI like very much the piers we can see in Great Britain. Except in few towns in north of France, we haven't piers on the French beaches.
I like walking on them, it remember me an oldworld (charme désuet)
Bonne journée
Glad you got out & about and enjoyed the mild weather. I glimpsed the sea this week as I raced around the countryside like a mad woman!!! xx
