Christmas Party in Shepton

Despite the bitterly cold evening on Friday, there was a very good turnout for the Pick and Mix Party on the Market Place in Shepton Mallet. It was to celebrate the end of the Turn Back Time BBC series (due to end this Tuesday with the 1970's episode), and also the switching-on of the Christmas tree lights in the town.

Earlier in the day, I had a couple visit my shop who were from Canada. They told me that it rarely gets as cold as this in Canada, and they would think twice about visiting England in the winter next time!...I was surprised to hear that...but although I attended the party in a 1970's lurex maxi dress (complete with marabou feather trim!), I can secretly tell you that I had several thermal layers on underneath! ;-))

*

I had my door open all evening and could watch most of the activities going on outside, including a juggler who was juggling with fire (who needed to be given a wide birth, I hasten to add! ;-))

Right outside my shop there was book signing...

(There is a Turn Back Time; the High Street book available to buy now.)

They were being signed by Simon, who was the blacksmith/ ironmonger in the show.

*

He was joined by Gill the dressmaker later in the evening.

The lights were switched on amidst 'oos and ahs' from the crowd...
and the evening drew to a close...
Keep warm,

  1. Looks like a great event. I'm really going to miss that series, it has been excellent.
Love your dress, I don't blame you for adding layers of thermals it has been bitter cold and not going to get much warmer, never mind good excuse for me to keep warm and get hooking!

  2. So glad the evening went well, love the blue lights on the tree. Have you seen a copy of the book? They did take some photos of me and Gill in the 1930's - I wonder if they have been included??

  3. Hi Niki

Unfortunately Alan, Miss P and I didn't feel up to it that night. We were all shatttered and as Miss P was still recovering from having cold and chesty cough (off school for 10 days) we felt it best to stay in. Lovely outfit Niki! Sarah's children looks so sweet in their outfits.
