It is an old Singer sewing machine dating from 1925. It is hand cranked, so I am going to use it in the summer months to do my work outside in the garden!! - How cool is that?!! It will be lovely not to have to be stuck in my workroom all day. I missed a lot of the summer last year. No dragging an electrical extension lead outside for me! - I will be able to stitch where I please - can't wait!

What a wonderful find! I'm so happy for you. When we leased a house in England it was furnished. There was an extremely old Singer, although it didn't have the hand wheel as yours, just a pedal. I so enjoyed using it; my first non-electrical sewing machine, other than my fingers that is. :0)
ReplyDeleteWhat a great idea! Lets hope we get a good weather, roll on summer!
ReplyDeleteBest wishes Ginny.
Hi Niki, what a lovely vintage find! You'll no doubt be sporting an impressive suntan by the end of the summer then! Clare x
ReplyDeleteI have one just like that, Stuart's Aunt gave it to me. I also have a pedal one that belonged to my Grandmother, unfirtunately the belt is broken, I wonder if you can still get replacements?
ReplyDeleteThat's one cool machine. It seems amazing nowadays when everything has a chip and is all-singing and all-dancing that something so (comparatively) basic still yields good enough results. Happy sewing!
ReplyDeleteNiki,
ReplyDeleteI have an old singer but its in a cabinet, I think there is a picture in my archives someplace. Wow sewing in the Garden, what a nice picture that makes.
So what is a "CAR BOOT SALE"? never heard that before. Maybe I have to get out more.
Well think pink.
NANCY JO
Thanks Nancy jo for your comment.
ReplyDeleteI think a car boot sale would be similar to your garage sales. In the UK we call the trunk of a car the 'boot'. People get together at the sale and sell from the boot of their car...hence the phrase! Hope this helps!
Oh a sewing machine in the garden sounds lovely. What a wonderful fine and a wonderful place to be creative.
ReplyDeleteThat car boot thing is good to know, when I come to the UK I will look pretty smart when I ask where they are being held.
ReplyDeleteTHANK YOU NIKI
What a fun picture that conjures up Niki..!
ReplyDeleteHow does the old song go..
'a sewing machine, a sewing machine, a girls' best friend'..hehe!
What a find!! My mother has one but with the pedal foot! They are treasures to own for sure!:)NG

ReplyDeleteCongrats on your new old singer! It looks gorgeous and sewing in the garden sounds wonderful!
ReplyDeleteOhhh I want one! Your post is making me long for summer.
ReplyDeleteThat is TOO cool!
ReplyDeleteI think some photos of you sewing in the garden will be nice to see! I can imagine the hollyhocks gathering around to see what you are making. Nosy things.

My goodness you find such wonderful things! Just love coming to your page and seeing all your treasures. Beautiful.
ReplyDeleteWow! Your Singer sewing machine is SO COOL! You might know that I have a bigger antique sewing machine as well (made by Singer, too) but I never tried sewing on it. It's just a lovely decoration in our living room!
ReplyDeleteReally, you are a lucky girl, congratulations!!!
What a lovely blog, and what a lovely find in that sewing machine! I use an old Singer although it is electric (from 1951), but it looks almost the same as your new (old!) one! I saw your pics of creamers and pitchers, and am so fond of the Cornish blue! You have such pretty things and are so creative! I will be back to read your posts!
ReplyDeleteOh that is a wonderful, wonderful find!! It is almost as old as my house! I love it Niki!! Great picture too.
ReplyDeletexo,
Kim
Loving your pink look honey :-)
ReplyDeleteGreat sewing machine. I have one of those somewhere. I hadn't thought of using it outside. You are clever!
I really have enjoyed looking at your lovely blog!
ReplyDeleteLove your Singer sewing machine. I have an old one too that belonged to my dear Gram, but I don't know how old it is.
Oooooh, what a find, I love those old Singer machines!
