Beyond My Four Walls...

A very big THANK YOU for all of your kind comments on my last post. I feel much better now(!) and will continue to add the goings-on at The Stone House (exciting or otherwise!), to my blog...
And just to show that I do occasionally leave the house ;-)) - I took this photograph in Bath city centre this morning. A new statue has appeared outside the Pump Rooms...It's by Sophie Ryder and is an installation on show until the end of the summer.

Sadly there are a few empty shops in Bath now; a reflection of the high rates and the financial crisis that has hit many of the smaller, more unique businesses, particularly in 'Shire's Yard'.

Rather than leaving the window display areas empty though, some have been used to advertise other shops and artisans of Bath. Clever mosaic cupcakes by one creative artist...

As well as the real thing from Country Cupcakes in Walcot Street.

Well, that's it for today - Sorry, not many photos, as I was on a mission with my daughter to buy new school shoes...
But I'll have some more Easter piccies to share with you soon as we wind down to a long bank holiday weekend...

  1. Thanks for sharing. Sign of the times has hit here as well - lots of stores closed. I see cupcakes are popular there also. :)

  6. I am always amazed that you can get out so many posts, and always interesting posts too with lots of images. It takes me ages to do the pics, putting words together and even when i do it the layout and format messes up LOL.

Always a joy to catch up with you.

  9. Those are very pretty cupcakes! Salisbury too has quite a few empty shops, I can remember the last time it was like this too and can only bear in mind that things WILL get better.

  13. Oh wow the Pump Rooms in Bath - you and I have stood in the very same place, isn't that funny!
The sculpture looks fascinating, and those cupcakes are fab. What a shame about shopes becoming empty there now, in such a beautiful area

  16. Hi Niki
Yes it is a shame about the shops. Last time I went to Shires Yard, it lacked atmosphere and felt strangely quiet. It is a pity that so many businesses have gone under.
A very nice display by Country cupcakes!
A couple of weeks ago, I went to Castle Cary for the first time in 9months and was disappointed to see that 3 of my favourite shop had closed. Wells is the same too. I used to like the shop next to the post office but now it's replaced by a high Street type shop.

  17. I think we all like reading about each other's lives - I'm sure a lot of us are the same in that we spend a lot of time at home but sharing what we've made or a new vintage treasure or just a few photos keeps us all in touch. It's like having a street full of lovely neighbours where you can just pop in for a quick cup of tea & a chat at your fingertips!

Hi Niki, thank you for your kind comments about the website. I noted a very slight tinge of the "blues" from that comment and now that I have read your previous post, i see you may have indeed have had a bit of "down" day. I spend most of my time at home too. I usually love being at home but sometimes a break is needed and it is always nice to be home again after we have been out for awhile. I must say those cupcakes look wonderful. I spent the evening making cupcakes tonight with Georgia. They are not as pretty as your pic but they are yummy!

  19. Wonderful cupcakes, of both varieties! Thanks for sharing the fun of Bath. I've been having a great UK shopping fix in Edinburgh this week, but it's still good to hear about what's going on in England. I was very relieved to note that my favourite independent shops are still open up here (I blogged about one of them yesterday). I had approached each one with fear, but in fact they seem to be holding on. Have a great Easter weekend!
