Wasn't feeling quite myself over the weekend and so searched for some inspiring words on the www. I found this (above) on a lovely lady I knows Facebook page. Although I enjoy (with a passion) running my little shop, it isn't a game. And even though I only open its doors three days per week now, in-between those days I am out and about trying to source just the right stock (no ordering-in service with vintage!); reworking/repairing/painting items that some may consider 'have seen better days'; answering emails, blogging etc in order to advertise, accounts to keep (only to find I can't pay myself again this week!); (Never having enough time for housework, errands, and doing things just for 'me') - But most of all I am to be found making...all the work done upfront in the hope of a sale. I'm not complaining, because I doubt at this stage in my life I'd be able to take orders from someone else, so being my own boss suits me...I know I am lucky...just sometimes I gets to thinking... source Have a great day! :) Niki x A sneaky-peek of what's been happening on those 'in-between days' - A new batch of special fairy dolls will be coming with me to the V&H February Fling on Saturday 22nd Feb. |

I'm not in the same league as you, so to speak, but, I can identify with you.
ReplyDeleteTrying to make ends meet is my biggest challenge since I was ill 3 years ago and haven't worked since.
It's not that I don't want to, just cannot and do not see myself being employed in the future. I have problems, some like anyone else and mostly my own as the problem cannot be 'seen' by others, I get classed a bit of a waster!
The point is, I admire your steel and determination to do what you love against all odds.
I do sincerely hope that business will pick up for you and hopefully give you your 'me' and family time.
Good luck and best wishes to you.

So well put Nikki - and a big hug from this SBO. We're also having a very quiet January. I'm doing the V&H in February too - hugely excited to be back - see you there!

Thanks Sandie...I have plans for this year... ;-))
ReplyDeleteGood luck to you too! Take care,

Hi Hen,
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely and very kind comment – thanks for taking the time...It’s nice to be appreciated! I think my blog is reaching its natural conclusion now, so I shall be closing it once I’ve made some decisions with my life over the next few months...
Good to see you last Sunday – I hope you found some lovely things. I gave H the fabric pieces that I bought last week when I saw her for lunch...She needed cheering up – Fabric always seems to do the trick! ;-))
Have a great week and thanks again for your kindness,
Niki x

ReplyDeleteI so agree Niki, it is so hard, and can be totally hearbreaking. I hope the year improves and some good and lovely things happen for you.
