Vintage Florals

I hope everyone had a lovely weekend!

We were certainly treated to some gorgeous weather again...

*
Hubby and I spent part of the weekend clearing and leveling the garden in readiness for the arrival of the summer house. We also laid an electric cable down to it to provide us with power in the hope that we will be able to extend the time we can spend in it. We could have a lamp, kettle and a fan heater if necessary, as well as me having the option to take my sewing machine in there too!

A base for a new path was also laid - take care not to step on the green plastic sheeting or you'll end up 6' down a manhole! - I almost did when I had my arms full of hedge trimmings and couldn't see where I was going! ;-))

May promises to be a hectic and busy month. Apart from the usual family stuff, and the work needed to prepare for the above, I have my Mum coming to stay later in the month, my eldest daughter will return home from Uni and there will be the final preparations for the V&H fair. I've decided not to update my on-line shop during May. I feel that the time it takes to list each item would be better spent making some more of my fairy dolls. I would like to have a good selection to take with me to the fair, as I have now been able to book a double pitch.
I shall endeavour to work on a huge update during June, with a large variety of handmade and vintage goods. I was able to make several buying trips over the weekend and am very happy with what I found.

The following photos are sneaky-peeks of some of the pretty vintage and antique goodies that I was able to buy.

Those of you that have visited me on my stall at the Shepton Mallet Antiques Fair in the past, will know that I always aimed to cram as much stock onto my tables as possible!
(Despite me only having a small car (and that I shall be taking my Mum with me on the 30th) I'm usually able to fit in a surprising amount of treasures!)

I shall be aiming for a vintage boudoir look, with plenty of florals and sparkle.

I spotted this beautiful jug on Liz's stall at Shepton at least 4 years ago (probably more), but she was reluctant to sell it to me then, as she was using it to display a huge bunch of dreamy lilac blooms. Well I noticed it again on her stand this Saturday, (again it was being used for display), but this time she agreed to sell it to me! I am chuffed to bits as it is a beauty - Thank you Liz - This is a keeper!

Whilst locking my hens up for the night, last night, I heard a snuffling noise. In the dusky half-light I caught site of this little cutie eating the chicken's pellets from their hopper!
Update: 8pm. Sorry for those not used to seeing one of these little creatures in your country - he's a Hedgehog!
Have a lovely week,
I'm off to make fairies, so apologies if I'm not around very much this week,
Niki x

  1. Beautiful flowers... and FABULOUSLY GORGEOUS treasures... but what caught my eye most is the DARLING HEDGEHOG!!! How sweet! I always wanted one as a pet, but was told that even though they are available here, they are rather reclusive and don't like to be handled. With four kids, that meant a definite "no" for us. =O I can't even imagine something so cute wandering around in your yard! =))))

  21. Hello again, and thanks so much for your kind comments and for entering my giveaway! I hope you have a wonderful time in France this summer. I know exactly what you mean about the French clustering so much in cities, but they also retain a kind of mythical adoration of their 'paysans' - after all, 'peasant' is an insult in English, but 'paysan' is a word that is used with respect in political and environmentalist writings here. I think both may be because they remained 'paysans' so much longer than we did, and it was our Industrial Revolution that made us all long for the country again. Have you noticed that French cemeteries are like little towns, whereas British ones are like fields? (This was not my observation, but I can confirm it's true).

  22. What beautiful photos, they have cheered my day up. I love your wisteria, it's beautiful. Every year I see it in bloom I think I must buy and plant that then forget, this year it is a must.
